Set up a right-to-left Shopify storefront
Updated yesterday
Cama switches your storefront to a right-to-left (RTL) layout automatically whenever the active Shopify language is a right-to-left language such as Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Urdu. There is no RTL switch in the theme: the reading direction follows the storefront language you select, and the header, menus, product cards, filters, search, accordions, the cart drawer, and directional icons all adapt on their own.
How Cama detects the reading direction
Cama reads the direction from Shopify's active storefront language, so a right-to-left layout appears only when a shopper is viewing a right-to-left language. The theme applies this automatically and no theme setting controls it.
Cama lays out right-to-left for these languages: Arabic, Hebrew, Persian (Farsi), Urdu, and other RTL scripts (the locale codes ae, ar, arc, bcc, bqi, ckb, dv, fa, glk, ha, he, kwh, ks, ku, mzn, nqo, pnb, ps, sd, ug, ur, and yi). Any other language stays left-to-right.
Make a right-to-left language available
You need a supported right-to-left language published in your store before shoppers can view (and you can review) the RTL layout. The theme's own language files only cover the languages Cama ships with, so run the RTL storefront with a language you've added to Shopify.
Add a supported right-to-left language to your store in Shopify, from the store's language settings.
In the Shopify theme editor, open the Footer section and turn on Show language selector. The selector appears only when more than one language is available to the store.
On the storefront, open the Language selector and choose the right-to-left language.
You can review the RTL layout before publishing by opening a storefront preview in the right-to-left language rather than switching the live store.
Review checklist before publishing
Work through these checks in the right-to-left language on both desktop and mobile, because the mirrored layout can expose spacing and alignment issues that a left-to-right build hides.
Header and menus mirror to the right and wrap cleanly.
Product cards and product pages read from right to left with the price and add-to-cart controls positioned correctly.
Collection filters align to the right and respond correctly.
Search (including the search modal) opens and types from the correct side.
The cart drawer opens from the left in RTL, the mirror of the left-to-right behavior, and its content lays out correctly.
Directional icons and any accordions flip to point the right way.
Mobile layouts keep the same mirrored behavior with no overlapping elements.
On the gift-card template, Cama tags the language but does not apply the RTL direction attribute, so that page does not currently mirror.
