Update your Cama theme safely

Update your Cama theme in the Shopify admin, where the update flow lives. When a new version is released, add it to your draft themes, confirm your customizations carried over and your code edits were included, preview and test it, then publish.

Check the current version

Cama's current version is 6.0.2, released January 14, 2026, and the Shopify Theme Store listing for Cama shows the latest version, release date, and release notes. When an updated version is released, Shopify replaces the version number in Online Store > Themes with a notification. Click it and choose View release notes to see what changed before you proceed. Cama updates are included with the theme's lifetime updates.

Add the update to your draft themes

Click the update notification to open the details dialog, then click Add to draft themes. The updated version appears in Draft themes with its name prefixed Updated copy of. Adding it doesn't change your current theme, and no other theme is affected until you publish.

What carries over

Shopify copies your theme-editor customizations over and applies them to the updated theme: theme settings, page-layout changes such as adding, reordering, or removing sections and blocks, section and block settings like images and text, new templates, app embed and extension settings, and wording changed in the theme content editor. After you add the update, re-check what Cama builds these from — see the list of templates your store relies on and confirm your preset choice.

Edited code files are a separate case. If you or an installed app changed the theme code and your edits don't conflict with the update, they're included. After you add the update, the theme card reports whether the outcome was code edits successfully included or code edits could not be included; if they weren't included, copy them to the new version yourself. Save a copy of any customized code before updating, and if you added custom CSS, confirm the selectors you target still exist in the new version.

Back up before you update

Duplicate your published theme so you have a clean copy to fall back on before you add and publish an update. In Shopify, go to Online Store > Themes, open the theme's actions menu, and choose Duplicate. The same precaution — work on a copy before changing code — applies whenever you customize Cama.

Review, preview, and test

Test the updated copy before it reaches shoppers; only publishing changes your live store. On the theme card, click Review to check that the new version displays and functions as you expect, then open it in Preview and walk the storefront like a customer: the pages your templates drive, product and collection pages, cart, customer account pages, and search results. Confirm your apps still work, since some apps may not be compatible with a new theme version. If support asks for a look, share your preview URL.

Publish and roll back

Click Publish when you're ready to make the update live. Your previously published theme moves back to Draft themes, so you can publish it again to roll back if something breaks after the update. Keep your duplicate until the update has been live and verified.
